Workshop 2:

Discourse analytical approaches to online hate speech. What is its societal impact?

Speakers

Moderator

Hate speech is reinforced in broader textual and cultural forms on various online and offline media platforms, and within the complex structures of modern society.

In the second workshop of the series, we reflect on hate speech from the post-disciplinary point of view within the broad field of discourse studies. The investigation of its current shapes and roles starts with new forms of communications (textual, visual, multimodal) and public interactions, and continues with analyses of social changes related to its spread in spheres such as art, culture or politics.

What does the discourse analytical study of hate speech tell us about its impact on social changes, and vice versa? What are the key themes in the study of contemporary hate speech discourses?
