Gabrielle Beacken
Gabrielle Beacken is a current PhD student in Journalism and Media at The University of Texas at Austin, USA. She received her MSc in Strategic Communications from The London School of Economics and Political Science in 2018 and worked in advertising technology (AdTech) as a Trader Analyst in New York.
Her research interests include investigating the political implications of propaganda and mis/disinformation on social media platforms and emerging technologies. She also studies manifestations of platformed antisemitism — including conspiracy and hate speech — especially within fields of activism and politics.
Gabrielle is a Graduate Research Assistant at the Center for Media Engagement’s Propaganda Research Lab and a graduate affiliate of UNC Chapel Hill’s Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life. Her articles have appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as Social Media + Society and Contemporary Jewry. Additionally, she is a member of the International Communication Association (ICA) and Association of Internet Researchers (AoIR).
