Discourse Report

Second Discourse Report

The second Discourse Report sets out how the project utilises the IHRA definition of antisemitism as the basis of our analyses and – for the first time – provides comprehensive insights into our corpus analyses relating to Great Britain, France and Germany, with a focus on the escalation phase of the Middle East conflict in May 2021, the Covid-19 vaccine rollout in Israel and three separate case studies in each country. The analysis of cross-national discourse triggers sheds light on the way the same event may elicit different antisemitic reactions across the three countries. The focus on events specific to each country, meanwhile, opens the way to the analysis of antisemitic web comments in specific cultural and social contexts. The last chapter of this report presents the corpus analyses carried out on the English data in order to deepen understanding of the ways in which people discuss Jewish- and Israel-related topics on the internet.
